Two women standing in front of the house on Sadds Mill Rd. (next to the Howard McKnight house. It is a small copy of the picture which Jean Hayden had framed archivally a few years ago. The younger woman is Shirley and Jean's grandmother, Edith Slater Hayden. The older woman (with the dark apron) is her mother, Lurancy Shippy Slater. After her husband Merrill Slater died in 1921, Lurancy bought the house in the picture from Howard H. McKnight. Lurancy died in 1927, so the picture is from some time in the range of 1921-1927. Both women grew up in Ellington.
The Hayden family lived in the house for about 50 years.
